This website has been outfitted as a pitch for the GatstroPod immersive experience at LIB 2025.
What is it?
This immersive installation is a perfectly playful intersection between art and science. We believe that there is no better way to learn than to see, feel, and hear for yourself.
You are a piece of food and you have just entered a giant mouth! OH NO! or perhaps... oh yes? This ‘GastroPod’ is a move-through-able installation beginning with the mouth, mazing through the internal organs and ending through the anal sphincter. The focal point of the installation is the stomach (the “GastroClub”), a fuzzy cozy geodesic dome, equipped with a DJ (detox booth), dance floors, and a lounge. Here you can find NA elixirs available at the digestive bar. There will be a door to the dome for ADA and emergency exit. There will be enzymes and gut bacteria (characters) awaiting your arrival, ready to serve you some “stomach acid spritz” After you tunnel through the small and large intestines, immersed in light and sound, you will push your way out the soft plushy anus… congrats.. you are the shit!
You’ve made it out safe this time, phew!
How big is this thing?
This installation will be large enough to host 20-25 people at a time, the lounge hosting 10-15 comfortably. It will be fully closed and immersive. The entire space will be enclosed making the only public entrance and exit through the mouth and anus. We will have two emergency exits in the stomach speakeasy.
Why should this be at LIB?
Lightning in a Bottle has gone down in history as one of the most immersive, transformative and experiential festivals. We have been lucky enough to experience this magic first hand, starting in 2013. What makes this different from other festivals, is that it offers the absurdity necessary to create vulnerable play and uninhibited learning. We revert to a childlike state at festivals, our desire for exploration and discovery heightened. This experience will offer not only play but also learning, as we aim to put funny facts and opportunities for education throughout. This intersection between art, play and education is how we believe we can make a positive impact on participating communities.
